About the USA Cycling Mountain Bike National Calendar
Created in 2007, the USA Cycling Mountain Bike National Calendar represents the United States’ premier off-road cycling circuit. Held at venues across the U.S., the calendar attracts top-level competitors from around the world and features three distinct calendars in order to offer participants the best events and courses in their chosen discipline annually – cross country, gravity or ultra-endurance. The USA Cycling Mountain Bike National Calendar was designed to provide a more accessible opportunity for top-level events that have not traditionally participated in a national series model and is compatible with a variety of event models in order to offer professional and elite-level athletes across all disciplines of mountain biking regular and consistent opportunities in the United States. For more information, visit www.usacycling.org, or contact USA Cycling director of communications, Andy Lee at: alee@usacycling.org .

NEW FOR 2008!
1. NEW DATE! Because we have been named the 24 Hour Mountain Bike National Championships in 2009-2010, we have moved our 2008 date to September 20-21.
2. More Course! Still the same great roads, the same beautiful forest and the same challenge, but now we have lengthened the course to make our loop almost 15 miles.
3. BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND! 6 Hour Division! Want to race solo or with some teammates but don’t want to go for 24 hours? Start at noon and finish at 6:00pm. Same rules, same course, same fun
4. NEW YOUTH DIVISION! Athletes 19 and under have the option of racing 2 laps of the course

Our course features the best Arizona has to offer. Set at almost 5000 feet of altitude, the days are warm and the nights crisp and clear. There is some downhill, some signal track and some fire roads through some of the most beautiful forests that Arizona has to offer.
In 2008 our course will be a 15 mile loop instead of the 10 mile loop we raced in previous years.

Go to www.findyourspot.com./report/Payson_az or www.ci.payson.az.us for more information about Payson.
Payson is located in the heart of Arizona amid scenic mountain vistas, verdant forests rivers and mountain meadows. Payson is one of Arizona’s most charming small communities and is only a 90 minute drive from Phoenix, Arizona.
Payson is renowned for its beauty and the recreational opportunities that abound in the forests surrounding the community. At an elevation of 5000 feet, Payson enjoys a mild, four season climate. Payson is located in one of 3 pure ozone belts in the world and is at the edge of the largest stand of Ponderosa Pine in the world.
Payson is a semi-arid climate at a 5000 feet of altitude. As a result, desert highs are moderated. Temperatures rarely climb into the 90s and summer nights drop to the low 50s making for great sleeping (or mountain biking) weather.
Payson offers a wide variety of recreational opportunities. The surrounding Tonto National Forest provided thousands of acres of trails for mountain biking, hiking, camping and picnicking. Forty miles away is the Salt River Canyon with some of the best white water rafting in the west. The Mogollon Rim, a 200 mile long escarpment soaring to 7000 feet is one of the natural wonders of the world and is filled with fishing lakes and camping opportunities.
The fun doesn’t stop when moving indoors. The Mazatzal Casino, run by the Tonto Apache Indian Tribe, is Arizona’s “Friendliest Big Casino” in Arizona and was the first casino to pay out a million dollar jackpot in Arizona.
Payson is a short drive from Phoenix, Arizona. Flights are plentiful and cheap into the Phoenix airport from all over the country. Bikes fly free to Tucson Racing events! Call 800-836-5823 and ask for the Tucson Racing fare.
Directions from Phoenix, Arizona: Take 202 Loop east. Take the AZ-87/Country Club Dr. (EXIT 13) and turn left toward Payson. The Mazatzal Casino is on the right and the Payson Rodeo Grounds are on the left, just off AZ 87 as you pull into Payson.
Tucson Racing will be offering free camping to all competitors at the Payson Rodeo Grounds. Although reservations for camping are not necessary, please indicate if you will be camping on your entry form so that we can plan enough spaces. Camping spots are first/come first served starting Thursday, June 16 at noon. We will plan for a 15% overage of spaces based on entry form requests for camping. If the Payson Rodeo Grounds is full, camping is available at numerous spots in and around Payson. Please check back for the campground map and further details.
In addition, there are plenty of motels in Payson and we will be offering discounts at several. Please check back for details.

Food and Fuel
- Plan your meals ahead of time. There will be food onsite if you wish to purchase it and there are local restaurants and grocery stores.

- Firewood is not available for collection in the forest. Bring your own fuel.
NOTE: This may be a rule unique to the Payson Stampede but it is our position that your finish placing is dependent on the number of laps you complete at the end of 24 hours, no matter when you completed your last lap. We will not make you do an extra lap just so that you cross the finish line between noon and 1:00pm on Sunday. If you decide that you have raced enough laps at, for example, 6:00am, then that will be the number of laps considered when placing solo riders/teams at the end of 24 hours.
The race will end at 12 noon on Sunday for all race groups in the 24 hour division. The finish for the 6 hour division will be 6 hours after the start of that race. The finish of the 12 hour division will be 12 hours after the start of that race.
Teams and solo riders may stop at any time. The time and laps completed will be recorded at the time you stopped. Please note that you do not have to cross the finish line at 12:00 noon on Sunday. Again, your score is the amount of laps you did in the time you did it in, whenever you chose to stop.
Teams and solo riders finishing a lap before 12 noon may still start another lap, as long as they start before 24:00:00 on the official race clock. This lap will count with respect to time and laps completed.
The time and number of laps completed by each team or solo will determine their finishing order.
In case of a tie in laps, the team or solo rider who finishes their last lap first will beat those who finish behind them.
A lap is officially finished when the AMB chip passes the lap-counting Checkpoint.
T-shirts will be ordered on April 23. If you do not enter before that time you will not be guaranteed a t-shirt.
