Club Rules:
Entries
1) Athletes are responsible for their own entries. No entries will be accepted from a club or club representative.2) A roster of all club entries will be sent to all clubs (or posted on the website) 10 days before the event. If there are changes, club representatives may submit only one change list. Change lists are due 7 days before the event. After that no changes will be accepted except from the athlete entered into the event.
3) The club list will be posted at registration the day before the event. At close of registration absolutely NO changes will be allowed by either athletes or clubs. The club list will be final for scoring purposes. It is the responsibility of the athlete to check his or her entry and to request correction if necessary.
4) We will do our best to get accurate club results out at the race. If we feel like the club race is too close to call then we will delay announcing the club results until a few days after the event to make sure the results are accurate. This announcement will be made at the start of the awards ceremony.
Eligibility
1) Each participant must be a member of the club for at least 30 days and be in good standing and have met all membership requirements of that club. If a member of a training company or coach based team then the participant must be paying for all training and coaching fees as typically charged by the training company or coach. For the purposes of racing in the Tempe International Triathlon, “training companies” or coaches cannot give scholarships, honorary memberships, free coaching, etc. for the purposes of competition in the club championships.
Wave Starts
1) All club participants shall be entered in and start in the waves of their respective age groups. Irregardless of the ruling made for the triathlon in general, if a club athlete does not start in his or her proper wave then any points won shall be forfeited and not count toward his or her club total.
Scoring
OVERALL
1st – 30
2nd - 20
3rd - 10AGE GROUP – SPRINT AND INTERNATIONAL
1st – 8
2nd - 6
3rd - 4
4th – 3
5th - 2Each entered team member gets 1 point for participation
Relay members and finishes do not count in point standings
Non-team participants did not figure in place points (for ex. if 2 non-team participants were 1 and 2 in a division, the 3rd place person gets 8 pts., etc.)
Trophies to be Awarded*
1) Large Club Division – 20 or more members entered
2) Small Club Division – Less than 20 members entered
3) Team Vitesse “Best Looking Team Award”* The club with the most overall points wins the schwag bag. Best Looking Team is entirely subjective and based on uniforms, club area, fan support, club spirit, signage and other intangibles.
Retro Division
Get all that old gear out of the garage and compete for the most retro triathlete. Our sport is now over 30 years old there have to be a lot of antiques, not including athletes, out there.Race in your favorite retro gear and win points that can take minutes off your time. For example, a pair of Oakley Factory Pilots might be worth 5 points. A Slingshot bike 20 points. Vintage Scott DH bars 5 points. Etc. For every 10 points you get a minute deducted from your time. At the end of the race, the minutes will be deducted from the finishing time for a final “retro” time. Winner of the retro division gets a really cool retro trophy.
You must designate retro division on your entry. Entry into the retro division does not disqualify you from overall or age group placing. Minutes are deducted from your time for retro division placing only. All retro division entrants must check in their retro gear at registration so that points can be tabulated.
We would like you to leave your retro gear and bike at registration so others may view the "history" of the sport. Please email if you would like to do this.
A points list will be posted shortly.
Youth/Junior Development Race Info

USAT Youth/Junior Development Races
Every junior triathlete has dreams of the Olympics and racing at the highest level. USA Triathlon recognizes that not every junior athlete is ready for or interested in the draft-legal format. Junior Development Races provide athletes a gateway into the developmental pipeline and provides a showcase for junior athletes to demonstrate their skill and passion for the sport of triathlon. Athletes will experience triathlon in its traditional, non-drafting format, officiated using USA Triathlon Rules. Junior Development Races are typically sprint-distance and have been selected because of their "junior-friendly" atmosphere and age-appropriateness. Results will be reported to USAT. Both the Havasu and the Tempe International Triathlon have been selected by the Southwest Region of USAT to be part of the Junior Development Series. Both the the Havasu Triathlon and the Tempe International Triathlon will be offering a Junior Development Race as one of the events being offered during the race. Youth, age 12-15, and Juniors, age 16-19, will race in their own wave at the start of the sprint triathlon. There is no need to do any special entry procedure. Simply enter the youth sprint triathlon at the special entry fee and you will be automatically entered into the Youth/Junior Development Race.
USAT AGE GROUP RULE
USA Triathlon, the governing body of the sport of triathlon, instituted a new
age group rule in 2005. Your race age is your age on December 31, 2008.
Therefore, if you are age up into a new age group during the calendar year, you
race in that new age group for the entire 2008 season. For example, Harry
is 34 years old on the day of the Tempe International Triathlon on May 18, 2008.
His birthday is on July 15, 2008 and on his birthday he will turn 35.
Therefore, Harry races in the 35-39 age group for all of 2008, including the
Tempe International Triathlon.
If you have a birthday in 2008 that puts you in another age group, you will race
with that age group in the race and leave in that age group’s wave. Using our
example above, even though Harry is 34 at the Tempe International Triathlon, he
will race with the 35-39 men and leave in the 35-39 men’s wave.
It is the athletes responsibility to enter with their correct age and leave in
the correct wave. Athletes who race in the wrong wave will be
disqualified.
At this time the Light Rail is being completed from downtown Phoenix through downtown Tempe. When it becomes operational, light rail trains will go down Washington and cross our bike course at Lakeview every 15 minutes. Because of light rail, the traditional Tempe Town Lake bike course becomes impossible. This is true for all triathlons at Tempe Town Lake. The City of Tempe is working diligently with all race directors to come up with a new bike course. As soon as it has been decided we will update the bike maps accordingly.
TRANSITION AREA
Landis Cyclery will be at registration on Saturday, May 17 and again at
the transition area on Sunday for last minute tweaks and adjustments.
The transition area will be located in Beach Park, on the south side of the
lake. Beach Park is at the intersection of Rio Salado and Mill.
Bikes do not need to be dropped off the evening before and should be brought on
race morning.
The sprint race will start first. The transition area will be set up so that
athletes in the sprint race may remove their bikes from the transition after the
last athlete in the sprint race finishes the sprint bike course.
SWIM - International Distance
The swim will be in Tempe Town Lake.

BIKE - International and Sprint Distance
The City of Tempe tells us that Light Rail will not impact our course in
2008. This is, however, subject to change as the construction schedule for
light rail changes. We will update the website immediately if the course changes
due to light rail construction.

The City of Tempe, Arizona is the state's seventh largest city, is located in the center of the Valley of the Sun with more than 160,000 residents calling it home. The City of Tempe, Arizona is bordered by Phoenix, Scottsdale, Mesa and Chandler. Access to Tempe is a snap with the Loop 101, 202, US 60, I-10 and Hohokam Expressway serving Tempe, making us the most accessible city in the metropolitan area. And, we are only 10 minutes from Sky Harbor International Airport with taxi service and public transportation available seven days a week. The City of Tempe, Arizona offers more than 300 days a year of sunshine to its residents and visitors, and annual rainfall amounts to approximately 7.36 inches a year.
In 1865, the U.S. Army arrived at the eastern end of the Salt River Valley and established Fort McDowell. After the arrival of the cavalry came Caucasian pioneers including Wickenburg entrepreneur Jack Swilling, who directed the renovation of the Hohokam canals, and town "founder" Charles Trumbull Hayden, who built a flour mill and began a ferry service across the Salt River.
"Hayden's Ferry," as the city was called then, was also the name of the only vehicle across the Rio Salado. The town grew slowly with mercantiles, saloons and other businesses along the dusty main street Mill Avenue, and was renamed the City of "Tempe" Arizona (Tem-PEE) by an English traveler who compared the area to the beautiful Vale of Tempe in Greece.
In 1886, the Arizona Territorial Normal School welcomed its first class of 31 students in the structure known today as Old Main on Arizona State University's campus. The college town and farming community grew steadily and quietly until post-World War II's Baby Boom pushed Tempe's city limits against the neighboring communities in every direction. In most recent years, corporate America has rediscovered and redefined the City of Tempe, Arizona much the same way Hayden "discovered" the home of the Pimas, who had "discovered" the home of the Hohokam.
Downtown Tempe offers all types of entertainment options to fit any desires. No where else in Arizona can one experience a Broadway show at a Frank Lloyd Wright designed theatre, see an NFL football game, choose from more than 75 places to eat, shop at brand name stores, climb a mini-mountain, kayak on a two-mile lake, take in an independent film, view works of art and stroll under shady trees - all within a one mile radius
The downtown area has grown to become a unique, pedestrian-friendly place to live, work and play. Shady brick sidewalks, turn of the century buildings, historic landmarks, and Arizona State University, "A" mountain and Tempe Town Lake all make Downtown Tempe the place to be for dining, shopping and nightlife.

Entry Fees
Tucson Racing apologizes for the increased in entry fees. Unfortunately, the
City of Tempe has dramatically raised their use and rental fees to all entities
using Tempe parks and streets for special events. The Tempe International
Triathlon is no exception. As much as we do not like to do so, we have no
choice but to pass these extra costs on to participants. If you have any
questions please email
